Free Wine Guides
Welcome! I’m glad you’re here. Pop a cork and pull up a chair.
If you opened this page, you probably identify as one of the following people:
When someone asks you to describe a bottle of wine, you know enough to say “it’s red” or “it’s white,” but you’re a bit lost beyond that.
You have some basic knowledge about wine, but you’d love to know more.
Wine lists excite and confuse you all at the same time.
You are intimidated and turned off by the snobbery in the wine industry but you still want to learn about wine (just in the comfort of your own home where people won’t judge you).
While my regular newsletters cover all things food and wine, this page is just for wine education e-books. We’ll dive into some basic wine knowledge (like reading a wine label or differentiating between types of grapes) to help you become a more confident wine-drinker.
This is a live, ever-evolving page, so I’ll keep adding new guides as I go. If there’s something specific you’d like to see here, feel free to drop me a note or leave a comment.

Guide #1: How to Read Wine Labels
If the wine aisle at the grocery store gives you hives, or you get overwhelmed looking through the wine list at your favorite restaurant, this guide is for you.
In nine pages, we review a) what sorts of information you should expect to see on a wine label b) how vintage (ie age), geographic location, and climate affect taste and c) common wine terms and abbreviations on the bottle. As a bonus, the last page includes a wine journal so you put your tasting skills to the test.
